What does Job 1:22 mean?
Even after losing everything—his wealth, his children, his health—Job's first response wasn't to curse God or demand He explain Himself. Instead, he grieved deeply and honestly, but he didn't cross into blaming God for being unfair or cruel. This verse captures something remarkable: Job made space for his pain without letting that pain poison his trust. It's worth knowing that the book of Job is wrestling with one of life's hardest questions: why do innocent people suffer? The author shows us someone who experiences devastation we can barely imagine, yet doesn't respond with anger toward God. That doesn't mean Job's friends help him well (they don't), or that his story resolves neatly—it doesn't. But this moment reminds us that holding onto God during suffering doesn't require pretending everything makes sense.
