Jeremiah 8:9

The wise men are disappointed. They are dismayed and trapped. Behold, they have rejected Yahweh’s word. What kind of wisdom is in them?

What does Jeremiah 8:9 mean?

Jeremiah is watching his people trust in human cleverness instead of God's truth, and it's leading them nowhere good. The religious leaders and scholars of his time thought they knew better than God's word, relying on their own understanding and plans, but that false confidence was actually setting them up for disaster. He's asking a piercing question: if wisdom means rejecting what God says, is it really wisdom at all, or just self-deception dressed up in fancy clothes? The warning still speaks today whenever we ignore what we know is true simply because following it would cost us something.
