“Then I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land will become a waste.””
What does Jeremiah 7:34 mean?
Jeremiah is describing a devastating judgment coming on Judah: God will silence all the sounds of joy and celebration, from wedding festivities to everyday laughter. The prophet paints this as a land stripped of life and normalcy, where the happy rhythms that mark a functioning society simply disappear. It's a stark way of saying that the consequences of turning away from God would be so severe that even the basic human expressions of love and celebration would vanish.
