What does Jeremiah 7:19 mean?
When we turn away from God, we might think we're getting away with something, but the prophet Jeremiah reminds us that we're ultimately hurting ourselves. God is saying here that when people reject him through their idolatry and disobedience, they're not really wounding God's pride—they're inviting shame and damage into their own lives. The "confusion of their own faces" means the embarrassment and brokenness that comes from living in rebellion, the natural consequences we face when we ignore what's best for us. This is meant as an invitation to reconsider, not a threat. God isn't looking for ways to punish us; he's pointing out that our choices have real costs. When you're going through a hard season, sometimes it helps to ask honestly whether you're carrying burdens you created yourself, and whether turning back toward what's true and good might actually lighten your load.
