Jeremiah 7:17
“Don’t you see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?”
What does Jeremiah 7:17 mean?
God is asking Jeremiah to really look at what's happening around him, to witness the idolatry and injustice that have become so normal people hardly notice anymore. The question itself is a wake-up call, inviting the prophet (and us) to stop overlooking what we've gotten used to seeing. Sometimes we need someone to point and ask, "Don't you see?" to help us recognize when things have drifted far from what matters most. This verse reminds us that God notices what we do in public and private, and that pretending not to see wrong around us doesn't make us innocent.
