What does Jeremiah 52:8 mean?

King Zedekiah made a desperate escape when Jerusalem fell to the Babylonians, but he couldn't outrun the consequences of his choices. His soldiers abandoned him in the open plains, leaving him utterly exposed and alone. The image captures the collapse of everything he'd relied on—his army, his power, his ability to protect himself—all gone in a moment of vulnerability. It's a stark reminder that running from accountability eventually catches up with us, and that isolation comes when we've lost the trust and loyalty of those around us.
