What does Jeremiah 51:37 mean?
Jeremiah is describing what will happen to Babylon, the mighty empire that had conquered Jerusalem and scattered God's people. The prophet paints a stark picture of total ruin: instead of a bustling city of power, it will become an empty wasteland where wild animals roam among rubble. The "hissing" he mentions is the sound of people shaking their heads in shock and dismay at the sight of such a great city brought so low.
