What does Jeremiah 48:46 mean?
Jeremiah spoke this judgment against Moab, a neighboring nation that had opposed God's people. The reference to Chemosh (Moab's chief god) shows that the disaster striking them was so complete that even their religious identity would be shattered, their god powerless to save them. When the prophet describes sons and daughters taken into captivity, he's describing the total collapse of a society, the breaking apart of families and the end of normal life as people knew it. This passage carries a sobering message about the consequences of turning away from God and living in rebellion against his ways. Yet even in judgment, God wasn't acting arbitrarily, but responding to real choices and real harm that Moab had caused.
