Jeremiah 47:1
“Yahweh’s word that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.”
What does Jeremiah 47:1 mean?
Jeremiah received a message from God about the Philistines, the ancient enemies of Israel who lived along the coast in what's now southern Palestine. This oracle came before an Egyptian pharaoh attacked Gaza, which helps us date when Jeremiah spoke these words. God often gave his prophets specific messages for neighboring nations, not just for Israel itself, showing that his concern extended to the whole region. Even though the Philistines were longtime adversaries, God still communicated with them through his prophet, inviting reflection on their future.
