What does Jeremiah 46:12 mean?

Egypt's defeat isn't a private matter, Jeremiah is saying, but a humiliation heard across the ancient world. The image of warriors falling together, each bringing the other down, captures how complete and unavoidable this collapse is. There's a sense here of inevitability, as if the nation's strength, which once seemed unshakeable, can crumble when confronted by forces just as powerful. For those of us who've watched plans collapse or felt powerless against difficult circumstances, there's something both sobering and oddly liberating in recognizing that even the mighty face limits, and that our pride or confidence alone cannot protect us.
