Jeremiah 43:11
“He will come, and will strike the land of Egypt; such as are for death will be put to death, and such as are for captivity to captivity, and such as are for the sword to the sword.”
What does Jeremiah 43:11 mean?
This prophecy announces that Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, will invade Egypt and bring judgment on its people. Jeremiah is telling the Judeans who fled to Egypt (despite his warnings) that they haven't found safety there, because God's plans won't be stopped by geography. The repetition of "such as are for death... captivity... the sword" emphasizes that each person will face the fate that comes with their choices, with no escape possible. For those listening then, it was a hard word: running away from God's calling doesn't protect you, and trying to hide from his purposes only delays the consequences.
