What does Jeremiah 38:24 mean?
King Zedekiah has just privately listened to the prophet Jeremiah warn him about the coming fall of Jerusalem, but he's terrified of what his own officials will do if they find out he's been consulting with a prophet who speaks against the war effort. So he asks Jeremiah to keep their conversation secret, essentially offering silence as the price of the prophet's life. It's a moment that reveals the king's internal conflict: he fears God's word through Jeremiah, yet he's even more afraid of his advisors and of making unpopular decisions.
