What does Jeremiah 37:11 mean?
During the siege of Jerusalem, the Babylonian army temporarily lifted their attack when Egypt's forces appeared to be coming to help the city. It was a moment of reprieve, a sudden shift in circumstances that gave the trapped residents hope that maybe, just maybe, they'd be spared. For Jeremiah, however, this pause in the fighting didn't change his conviction that Jerusalem's fall was inevitable, and his unwavering message about this reality would soon put him in serious danger. Sometimes what looks like good news or a lucky break doesn't alter the deeper truth of a situation, and sometimes speaking that truth costs us dearly.
