Jeremiah 33:24
““Don’t consider what this people has spoken, saying, ‘Has Yahweh cast off the two families which he chose?’ Thus they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.””
What does Jeremiah 33:24 mean?
When Jeremiah spoke these words, Jerusalem was under siege and the people were losing hope. They were wondering if God had abandoned them, if he'd rejected both the kingdom of Judah and Israel (the "two families" he'd chosen generations before). The pain of exile and destruction made them feel forgotten. God's response through Jeremiah is both a correction and a comfort: don't listen to that despair talking. Yes, they'd been unfaithful, but God hasn't cast them off the way they fear. When we're going through our hardest seasons, we often hear that same voice of doubt, whispering that we've been left behind or that God's promises don't apply to us anymore.
