Jeremiah 33:17
“For Yahweh says: “David will never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel.”
What does Jeremiah 33:17 mean?
God's promise here is that David's royal line would never completely die out. This was spoken during one of Israel's darkest periods, when the kingdom had been conquered and the people were in exile, so hearing that the dynasty would endure must have felt like a lifeline of hope. For the Jewish people, this verse meant God hadn't abandoned them or broken his covenant with their greatest king, even in their lowest moment.
