What does Jeremiah 32:6 mean?

This verse marks the beginning of one of the Bible's most dramatic object lessons. Jeremiah is about to do something that seems completely backwards: during a brutal siege of Jerusalem, when the city is starving and about to fall to the Babylonians, God will tell him to buy a piece of land as an act of faith. It's the kind of thing that would make anyone question whether they'd heard God correctly, which is why the verse pauses here to confirm that this word truly came from the Lord. The simple phrase reminds us that what follows isn't Jeremiah's own idea or wishful thinking, but a genuine message from God in a moment when faith feels almost impossible.
