Jeremiah 32:28
“Therefore Yahweh says: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will take it.”
What does Jeremiah 32:28 mean?
Jeremiah is speaking God's word during Jerusalem's final crisis, when the Babylonian army was literally at the gates. God is confirming what seemed like the worst possible outcome: the city would fall, and there was no escape from it. This wasn't because God was weak or absent, but because the people had rejected Him repeatedly, and judgment had finally come. What makes this moment poignant is that Jeremiah delivers this message while Jerusalem is under siege and he himself is imprisoned. Yet just before these words of judgment, Jeremiah had been instructed to buy land as a sign that restoration would eventually come.
