What does Jeremiah 32:18 mean?
Jeremiah speaks here of God's dual nature: boundless mercy extended across generations, and also accountability for wrongdoing that ripples through families. The "thousands" emphasized his grace, while the second part acknowledges something many of us recognize from life, that the consequences of our choices don't vanish but often affect those we love most, including our children. This isn't about God punishing innocent children for their parents' sins, but rather the natural weight of inherited patterns, trauma, and broken systems. A parent's addiction, anger, or dishonesty genuinely shapes a child's path. At the same time, Jeremiah anchors this hard truth to God's character: the God who sees all this brokenness is also the one whose kindness extends to thousands.
