Jeremiah 31:18

What does Jeremiah 31:18 mean?
Ephraim (representing the northern kingdom of Israel) is admitting that God's discipline has finally gotten through to them, like a young animal that needed breaking in to obey. They're recognizing that the punishment was deserved and that they can't change themselves on their own, so they're asking God to turn them around.
