Jeremiah 31:1
““At that time,” says Yahweh, “I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.””
What does Jeremiah 31:1 mean?
God is making a profound promise here to Israel during a time of exile and loss. After judgment and heartbreak, he's saying that his commitment to them hasn't ended, and won't end. He's pledging to restore the relationship that defines them both: he will be fully their God, and they will fully be his people again. This matters because it comes at a low point in Israel's story, when their nation was fractured and many felt abandoned. The promise reassures us that belonging to God isn't something we permanently lose through failure or hardship. No matter how broken things feel, God's intention toward his people is restoration and presence.
