What does Jeremiah 30:6 mean?
Jeremiah is using shocking, reversed imagery to describe the terror of coming judgment. He's asking a rhetorical question: have you ever seen a man experiencing the pain of childbirth? Of course not, yet that's what everyone looks like now—hands clutched to their bodies, faces drained of color, gripped by an agony they've never known before. This vivid picture shows how the violence and chaos of invasion will turn even the strongest people into those who are utterly helpless and afraid. It's a way of saying the disaster will be so severe and so personal that it will shake people to their core in ways they never imagined possible. The reversal of roles (men in the position of women in labor) emphasizes how completely turned upside down their world has become.
