because they have not listened to my words,” says Yahweh, “with which I sent to them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but you would not hear,” says Yahweh.

What does Jeremiah 29:19 mean?

God is expressing His frustration with people who repeatedly ignored the messages He sent through His prophets. Even though He made effort after effort—"rising up early" suggests persistence and urgency—the people simply refused to listen. This verse sits within a larger letter Jeremiah wrote to Jewish exiles in Babylon, and it explains why they're suffering: not because God abandoned them, but because they chose not to hear His warnings and guidance when they had the chance. It's a poignant reminder that God's words come to us with intention and care, but their power depends partly on whether we're actually willing to listen.
