Jeremiah 28:6
“even the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May Yahweh do so. May Yahweh perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of Yahweh’s house, and all those who are captives, from Babylon to this place.”
What does Jeremiah 28:6 mean?
Jeremiah is responding to another prophet, Hananiah, who has just declared that God will break Babylon's power and bring the exiles home within two years. Instead of immediately contradicting him, Jeremiah says "Amen" and expresses the same hope, acknowledging that restoration and freedom are what everyone longs for. This moment shows Jeremiah's genuine heart for his people, even as he wrestles with doubt about what God has actually revealed to him. A few verses later, Jeremiah will respectfully challenge Hananiah's timeline and message, but here we see him first honoring the desire for peace and redemption that they both share. It's a reminder that having different understandings of God's will doesn't mean we can't hold space for each other's deepest wishes for healing and wholeness.
