Jeremiah 28:2

What does Jeremiah 28:2 mean?
During Jeremiah's time, Babylon had conquered Judah and placed a heavy burden of exile and servitude on God's people. A false prophet named Hananiah stood up and declared that God had already broken that oppressive yoke, meaning the suffering would end right away. The problem was that God had actually told Jeremiah the exile would last seventy years, not be immediately reversed. This verse shows how appealing false comfort can be, especially when people are exhausted and desperate for relief from hardship. It's a reminder that sometimes we hear what we want to hear, and it takes discernment to know the difference between genuine hope and wishful thinking.
