Jeremiah 28:17
βSo Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.β
What does Jeremiah 28:17 mean?
Hananiah was a false prophet who had directly contradicted Jeremiah's warning that Babylon would conquer Jerusalem. When Jeremiah told him that God had declared his prophecy a lie, Hananiah died just two months later, in that same year. The sudden death served as confirmation to the people that Jeremiah spoke truth and Hananiah did not. Sometimes what feels like a quiet footnote in Scripture carries real weight, a reminder that speaking false comfort in God's name has consequences, while faithful truth-telling, even when unpopular, stands vindicated.
