What does Jeremiah 28:10 mean?
Hananiah, a false prophet, had just promised the people that God would break the yoke of Babylonian oppression within two years, contradicting Jeremiah's message of captivity. To make his point dramatic and convincing, Hananiah physically removed the wooden yoke from Jeremiah's neck and smashed it. It's a moment of theater meant to persuade the people that his hopeful prophecy was true and Jeremiah's warning was wrong. What Hananiah didn't understand was that breaking a wooden symbol doesn't change God's actual plans, and his bold gesture was itself a sign of his false authority.
