What does Jeremiah 27:10 mean?
Jeremiah is warning the people of Judah not to listen to false prophets who are telling them comfortable lies. These prophets are claiming that God will protect them from the Babylonian invasion, but Jeremiah knows that's not what God intends. The false prophets are actually pushing people toward exile and destruction by encouraging them to resist when surrender would be the wiser path. This speaks to something painfully real: sometimes the people we trust most will tell us what we want to hear rather than what we need to hear. The lies feel better in the moment, but they lead us away from safety and toward harm. Jeremiah's message is that God's true word may be harder to accept, but it's always more trustworthy than soothing falsehoods, especially when we're facing difficult circumstances.
