What does Jeremiah 26:4 mean?

God is offering Israel a clear choice: follow the path he's laid out through his law, or face the consequences of ignoring him. The conditional "if" here isn't about doubt but about genuine options, showing that God respects human freedom even while urging people toward what's best for them. This message comes through the prophet Jeremiah at a time when Judah was drifting away from God's ways, so he's calling them back to basics, like a parent reminding a wandering child which direction leads home. The point isn't that God enjoys punishing disobedience, but that living according to his wisdom actually works, while turning away from it doesn't.
