Jeremiah 25:15
“For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says to me: “Take this cup of the wine of wrath from my hand, and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it.”
What does Jeremiah 25:15 mean?
God is telling the prophet Jeremiah to deliver a difficult message: that divine judgment is coming to many nations, and they will experience the consequences of their unfaithfulness and wrongdoing. The "cup of wrath" is a poetic way of describing punishment or suffering, suggesting something bitter that must be swallowed and endured. This command puts Jeremiah in a hard position as a messenger. He's being asked to warn people about judgment they won't want to hear, which made his calling lonely and often dangerous. Yet it also reveals something important: God sends warning before judgment falls, giving people a chance to turn around. Even in wrath, there's an invitation to repentance embedded in the very act of warning.
