What does Jeremiah 24:10 mean?
God is describing the serious consequences that will follow if the people of Judah continue turning away from him. The sword, famine, and pestilence were the three great scourges of the ancient world, and mentioning all three emphasizes the totality of what's coming, not just one disaster but overwhelming hardship from every direction. What makes this passage particularly hard to sit with is that God says these judgments will continue until the people are completely removed from the land he gave their ancestors, which happened when Babylon conquered Jerusalem and took people into exile.
