Jeremiah 22:6
“For Yahweh says concerning the house of the king of Judah: “You are Gilead to me, the head of Lebanon. Yet surely I will make you a wilderness, cities which are not inhabited.”
What does Jeremiah 22:6 mean?
God is comparing Judah's royal house to Gilead and Lebanon, regions known for their beauty, abundance, and natural wealth. This is a deeply painful reversal, because he's saying he will transform something precious and flourishing into abandonment and ruin. The message comes during a time when Judah's kings were growing corrupt and unjust, ignoring God's warnings through the prophet Jeremiah. What makes this so striking is the tenderness in how it begins. God doesn't start by condemning but by reminding them of what they were to him, almost like saying "you were my treasure."
