Jeremiah 2:36

Why do you go about so much to change your ways? You will be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Assyria.

What does Jeremiah 2:36 mean?

Jeremiah is speaking to the people of Judah, who kept shifting their political allegiances—first relying on Assyria for protection, then turning to Egypt—instead of trusting God. He's asking why they keep chasing after different alliances when each one has disappointed them. The point is that running from one false solution to another won't bring security or peace, and they'll end up disappointed by Egypt just as they were by Assyria. There's a gentle but firm truth here: when we keep searching for answers in all the wrong places instead of turning toward what's actually trustworthy, we're setting ourselves up for repeated letdown. Whether it's people, systems, or anything else we lean on instead of God, the pattern of disappointment tends to repeat itself.
