Jeremiah 19:3
“Say, ‘Hear Yahweh’s word, kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem: Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says, “Behold, I will bring evil on this place, which whoever hears, his ears will tingle.”
What does Jeremiah 19:3 mean?
Jeremiah was sent to deliver a hard message to the leaders and people of Jerusalem, warning them that God's judgment was coming because of their unfaithfulness and the evil they were committing (including practices like child sacrifice in valley shrines). When Jeremiah says their ears will "tingle," he's using vivid language to describe shock, horror, and the piercing impact of hearing devastating news, like the ringing you feel when something loud startles you. This wasn't meant to be mysterious or unclear: God was directly telling them that consequences were approaching because of their choices. Even though the message was severe, the point was to wake them up and call them back, because God would still have preferred repentance over judgment.
