Jeremiah 13:5
“So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as Yahweh commanded me.”
What does Jeremiah 13:5 mean?
Jeremiah had just been told by God to buy a linen belt, wear it, and then bury it by the Euphrates River, which was many miles away. This wasn't a practical instruction, but a living parable meant to show what would happen to Judah. Just as the buried belt would rot and become worthless, so God's people would be ruined and lose their value if they continued turning away from him. Jeremiah's willingness to obey, even when the command seemed strange and costly, shows his faithfulness and becomes part of his message to a stubborn people who refused to listen.
