James 5:7
“Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain.”
What does James 5:7 mean?
James is writing to people who are suffering and waiting for God to make things right. He's telling them to hold on, using the image of a farmer who plants seeds and then has to wait through the seasons, trusting that the rain will come and the crop will grow. The farmer can't rush the process—he just tends what he can and waits for conditions beyond his control to do their part. That's what patience looks like here: not passive giving up, but active trust while you wait for God to move. Just as the farmer knows the rain will eventually come, you can know that Jesus will return and God's justice will be complete. In the meantime, tend to what's in front of you and don't lose heart.
