James 1:7

What does James 1:7 mean?
This verse completes James's thought about asking God without faith. When we pray while doubting whether God will actually answer, we're essentially telling God we don't trust him, and that kind of prayer leaves us empty-handed. The point isn't that God punishes doubt, but rather that genuine faith and doubt work against each other, like trying to move forward and backward at the same time. If you're wrestling with whether God listens or cares, that's honest ground to stand on, but James is saying that a prayer born from genuine trust opens us to receive what God offers, while a prayer shadowed by conviction that it won't work can't really receive anything.
