What does Isaiah 8:13 mean?
When Isaiah tells us to fear and dread God, he's not describing the panic of someone running from danger, but rather a reverent awe that comes from recognizing who God truly is. This kind of fear is actually the opposite of anxiety—it's what settles us when we stop trying to manage everything ourselves and acknowledge that the God of all creation is trustworthy and in control. The repetition here (respect, fear, dread) isn't meant to pile on terror but to emphasize that our deepest loyalty and attention belong to God alone, not to the people or circumstances around us. When we genuinely grasp God's power and character, everything else falls into proper perspective.
