Isaiah 66:9
“Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to be delivered?” says Yahweh. “Shall I who cause to give birth shut the womb?” says your God.”
What does Isaiah 66:9 mean?
God is speaking here through the prophet Isaiah to reassure his people during a time of exile and uncertainty. The image of birth and delivery is a promise that what God has begun, he will complete, not abandon halfway through. Just as a mother doesn't carry a child to birth only to refuse to deliver, God won't start a work of restoration and then leave it unfinished. This was deeply comforting to the Israelites facing the long, difficult journey of returning from Babylon. It speaks to anyone in a season that feels incomplete or stuck, reminding us that God's purposes don't get left dangling. What he initiates, he sees through to completion.
