“You were wearied with the length of your ways; yet you didn’t say, ‘It is in vain.’ You found a reviving of your strength; therefore you weren’t faint.”
What does Isaiah 57:10 mean?
When we exhaust ourselves chasing things that don't satisfy us, we often keep going anyway, telling ourselves it's worth it. Isaiah is describing people worn down by spiritual wandering, running after idols and false hopes, yet stubbornly refusing to admit the whole effort is pointless. The surprising turn here is that despite their weariness, they found renewal, not because what they pursued was real, but perhaps because human resilience kept them moving. This speaks to how easy it is to stay trapped in cycles that drain us, as long as we refuse to name them as futile. Yet there's also an invitation underneath: if we could find that same energy and admit the truth about our exhaustion, we might discover real strength that comes from changing course rather than just enduring.
