Isaiah 56:12
““Come,” say they, “I will get wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow will be as today, great beyond measure.””
What does Isaiah 56:12 mean?
These words describe people caught in a cycle of self-indulgence, always chasing the next pleasure to fill an emptiness inside. They're not just talking about drinking, but about a mindset that treats today's excess as a solution to tomorrow's uncertainty, as if one more day of gratification will somehow secure their happiness forever. The tragedy in their thinking is the blind assumption that tomorrow will simply repeat today without consequence. They're avoiding the harder work of building something real, of facing what's actually wrong, of seeking genuine fulfillment. It's a very human pattern: when we're restless or afraid, we reach for whatever numbs us or distracts us, telling ourselves it will all work out if we just have enough of it.
