Isaiah 53:9
“They made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.”
What does Isaiah 53:9 mean?
This verse describes a paradox in how Jesus would be treated after his death. He would be buried among criminals, yet also somehow connected to a wealthy burial, even though he committed no crime and spoke only truth. The first part echoes how Jesus was crucified alongside thieves, while the second part points to Joseph of Arimathea, a wealthy member of the Sanhedrin, who offered his own tomb for Jesus' burial. What makes this striking is that someone completely innocent and truthful would receive the fate of the guilty, yet even in that injustice, God's providence would show up in an act of dignity and care.
