Isaiah 53:4
“Surely he has borne our sickness, and carried our suffering; yet we considered him plagued, struck by God, and afflicted.”
What does Isaiah 53:4 mean?
This verse describes someone who takes on the pain and illness meant for others, yet the people around him misunderstand him completely, thinking his suffering proves God has abandoned or punished him. Isaiah is painting a picture of innocent suffering that accomplishes something redemptive, even though observers see only shame.
