Isaiah 48:5
“therefore I have declared it to you from of old; before it came to pass I showed it to you; lest you should say, ‘My idol has done them, and my engraved image, and my molten image, has commanded them.’”
What does Isaiah 48:5 mean?
God is saying he told his people ahead of time what would happen so they couldn't credit their own idols with making those things occur. Isaiah lived when Judah was tempted to worship carved images and foreign gods, and this verse shows God essentially saying, "I'm proving my power by predicting the future, so you'll know these blessings come from me, not from your handmade gods." It's a compassionate move, really, because God is trying to head off the confusion that might otherwise lead people astray. For us today, it's a reminder that God's faithfulness often comes with signs and evidence meant to strengthen our trust in him, especially when we're drawn toward trusting other things instead.
