Isaiah 47:13
“You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Now let the astrologers, the stargazers, and the monthly prognosticators, stand up and save you from the things that will come on you.”
What does Isaiah 47:13 mean?
God is calling out the people of Babylon for exhausting themselves by constantly seeking guidance from every possible source, especially from those who claim to read the future in the stars. The irony here is sharp: if all these astrologers and fortune-tellers were truly powerful, they would have already saved Babylon from the disaster coming its way. Instead, God is saying their endless searching for answers outside of Him has left them tired and defenseless, clinging to advisors who can't actually deliver what they promise. This speaks to something real in our own lives: sometimes we wear ourselves out chasing advice and reassurance from every direction, whether that's social media, horoscopes, or constantly consulting others, when what we actually need is to trust in something deeper. The verse isn't condemning seeking wisdom generally, but rather the kind of frantic, scattered seeking that leaves us exhausted and still afraid.
