Isaiah 44:7
“Who is like me? Who will call, and will declare it, and set it in order for me, since I established the ancient people? Let them declare the things that are coming, and that will happen.”
What does Isaiah 44:7 mean?
God is asking a rhetorical question here, inviting us to recognize that no one compares to him in power and knowledge. The challenge to "declare it and set it in order" refers to predicting future events with accuracy, something only God can truly do because he exists outside of time and sees what's coming. This was a pointed message to people living in exile in Babylon, surrounded by fortune tellers and other gods who claimed knowledge they didn't possess. When Isaiah wrote this, it was meant to remind them that the God of Israel alone could speak about tomorrow with absolute certainty, and that their trust should rest on him, not on the empty claims of idols or human prediction. For us, it's an encouragement that in an uncertain world, there's one source of true wisdom and security, even when our own future feels murky and unclear.
