What does Isaiah 43:28 mean?
God is describing the consequences of Israel's unfaithfulness through the prophet Isaiah. The people had turned away from God and broken their covenant, so God allowed their leaders to be disgraced and their nation to face humiliation and exile among other peoples, who would treat them with contempt. This isn't God acting out of cruelty, but rather allowing natural consequences to follow disobedience, much like a parent allowing a child to experience the results of their poor choices. Yet even in this harsh word, Isaiah's larger message is one of restoration, as God ultimately promises to redeem and restore his people after their time of suffering and exile.
