Isaiah 42:8
““I am Yahweh. That is my name. I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to engraved images.”
What does Isaiah 42:8 mean?
God is saying that His identity and His honor belong to Him alone, and He won't share them with anything made by human hands. This doesn't mean He's being selfish in the way we understand it, but rather that giving worship to idols or false gods actually damages us spiritually because we're directing our deepest trust toward things that can't help us. When we hold onto the real God instead of chasing after substitutes, we're choosing what's actually real and life-giving. The promise here is that the God who made everything is faithful to His own name and won't pretend that anything else deserves the honor He does.
