Isaiah 42:23
βWho is there among you who will give ear to this? Who will listen and hear for the time to come?β
What does Isaiah 42:23 mean?
God is asking His people a pointed question: Are you actually paying attention to what I'm telling you about the future? It's an invitation to listen not passively but with real intention, to take seriously the warnings and promises being spoken through the prophet. In the context of Isaiah's ministry, God was preparing His people for exile and eventual restoration, and He wanted them to understand these coming events rather than stumble through them in ignorance. The question carries both concern and hope, as if God is saying, "Will you trust what I'm telling you now, even though you can't see how it will unfold?" For us today, it's a gentle challenge to consider whether we're truly listening to what God speaks to us, or if we're too distracted or doubtful to really hear.
