Isaiah 40:1
““Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God.”
What does Isaiah 40:1 mean?
God opens this passage by calling His people to receive comfort, and the repetition of the word shows how deeply He wants them to hear it. This comes at a moment when Israel is weary from exile and punishment, feeling abandoned and hopeless. God isn't dismissing their pain or telling them to just move on, but rather stepping toward them with tenderness and saying: you are still my people, and I see you. It's a powerful reminder that when we're at our lowest, God's first impulse toward us isn't judgment but compassion.
