Isaiah 39:3
“Then Isaiah the prophet came to king Hezekiah, and asked him, “What did these men say? Where did they come from to you?” Hezekiah said, “They have come from a country far from me, even from Babylon.””
What does Isaiah 39:3 mean?
King Hezekiah had just received envoys from Babylon, and the prophet Isaiah wants to know what happened during their visit. When Hezekiah tells Isaiah the men came from far away Babylon, it seems like a straightforward answer, but Isaiah senses something important beneath the surface. This moment sets up a hard truth: Hezekiah, the king of Judah, has been impressed and perhaps too welcoming toward a foreign power, and Isaiah is about to show him that this friendship will have serious consequences for his nation's future. Sometimes the people we trust spiritually can see dangers we're too eager or distracted to notice ourselves.
